The friendly eye-contact, a warm smile, a pleasant “Hello”. It’s as simple as that to make a person feel comfortable and at ease. A ‘Happy School Environment’ is a ‘Bully Free Environment’. The pledge is to have no part in bullying anyone! A healthy mind does not speak ill of others or treat others with displeasure. This is the gist of it, in having a healthy and happy school community.
A friendly school environment is where everyone is happy, respected, and valued. So, say “NO” to bullying. The message conveyed loud and clear, throughout the school campus is, ‘Don’t be a Bully. Be a Buddy’. Don’t we fully agree to this? Truly so, and it is to be practiced every day, with no time limitations, celebrating positive and happy friendships among school mates.
All children feel safe learning, playing and enjoying the company of other children when treated fairly, with respect and dignity. Ours being a school where diversity is celebrated, and ethnicity is promoted, ample opportunities are provided to share and learn from each other’s diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. Differences are accepted, acquaintances are made, and togetherness is celebrated.
Being aware that even the youngest of children can understand the consequences of their own actions, the school conducts an array of circle time activities promoting anti-bullying. Students are provided with opportunities to express their views and opinions whereby they feel comfortable knowing that they will be heard.
The friendly and positive social climate of the school has a significant effect on the reduced number of bullying episodes, ensuring that students develop the virtue of empathy towards their peer mates.
To retain this positive social climate in classrooms and around the campus, assemblies and classroom discussions are conducted, actively involving students, motivating them to support the rules as an act of personal responsibility.
‘Upstanders’ who step in and take action to stand up for one another are encouraged to create an atmosphere that reflects the value of safety, self-worth, respect, and inclusion. Our dedicated staff are ‘all eyes’, to prevent / deal with the consequences of bullying, if found, swiftly and positively, to promote a positive and caring ethos within the school environment.
A simple pledge everyone can take, “I pledge to be a buddy who cares. Let it be anyone I meet; I take it as a treat, and with pleasantries I shall greet. A smile, a handshake, a “Hello”, will bring a smile on the other’s face, making him / her feel valued. It feels so good.”
Take it as you would. School is cool!
