Where Do We Humans Stand, With AI Taking Over?

13-02-2024

Everyone has interacted with Artificial Intelligence (AI), at some point. Its rise in recent years has changed the way we get things done in our daily lives. From the realm of science fiction to the realm of everyday life, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made significant strides. Since AI has become so persuasive in today’s industries and people’s daily lives, a new debate has emerged, putting the two competing paradigms of AI and Human Intelligence (HI).

After all the hard work put into learning, aiming for a successful career path, does the future look bleak with Artificial Intelligence taking over? Isn’t it food for thought? I mean, for serious thought! Where do we humans stand, in comparison with AI? Humans who are considered as the superior most living being, now being challenged by machines??? AI which has been made and programmed by us humans, now seem to be invading human territories! The robotic revolution is set to cause the biggest transformation in the world’s workforce since the industrial revolution.

The purpose of human intelligence is to combine a range of cognitive activities to adapt to new circumstances, whereas the goal of Artificial Intelligence is to create computers that can behave like humans and complete jobs that humans normally do. AI has come a long way from being a component of science fiction to reality! Today we have a host of intelligent machines like self-driving cars, smart visual assistants, chatbots and surgical robots, to name a few.

Perhaps, the biggest fear is that AI will ‘replace’ humans and outsmart them in a few years. However, it is not entirely true. Although AI is highly advanced – now that machines can learn from experience and make smart decisions – AI cannot function optimally without relying on innately human attributes like human intuition.

Even with the invasion of AI, the human brain is not the ‘I give up’ kind! The competition will be till the last thread, to ensure that AI does not tread on human territory. Let it be a ‘give and take’ policy but NOT the ‘take it all’ policy!
